Abstract: Sul molo del porto di Patrasso, in Grecia, osserviamo le navi mercantili attraccate nella rada. Č la prima tappa della cosiddetta “rotta balcanica”, percorsa ogni anno da migliaia di persone in fuga dai paesi mediorientali per raggiungere il cuore dell’Europa: sono uomini e donne che attraversano a piedi i boschi, le montagne, i fiumi, i campi. Il piů delle volte, quando vengono fermati dalla polizia di frontiera, sono rimandati indietro al punto di partenza. Č quello che alcuni di essi chiamano “il gioco”. Lichelli, Settembrini e Lorusso ripercorrono la rotta migratoria che collega l’Asia all’Europa. In “Go, Friend, Go” le storie passano di testimone man mano che si raggiunge una diversa tappa del viaggio: le foreste di Šid in Serbia, le fabbriche abbandonate del cantone bosniaco di Una Sana, infine le piazze di Trieste. Partendo con un approccio tipico da cinema d’osservazione, i registi affidano poi il racconto alle interviste ai migranti e alle volontarie che li soccorrono al confine, unendo linguaggi differenti, come l’animazione e il found footage registrato dai telefoni cellulari. Un film composito dal punto formale proprio perché č la natura del viaggio a essere molteplice e frammentaria.
On the dock at the port of Patras, Greece, we observe merchant ships docked in the roadstead. This is the first stop on the so-called "Balkan route," traveled every single year by thousands of people who are fleeing Middle Eastern countries to reach the heart of Europe: these are men and women who cross forests, mountains, rivers, and fields by foot. Most of the times, when they are stopped by the border police, they are sent back to where they came from. It is what some of them call "the game." Lichelli, Settembrini and Lorusso retrace the migration route that connects Asia to Europe. In “Go, Friend, Go” the stories switch as they reach a different stage of the journey: the forests of Šid in Serbia, the abandoned factories of the Bosnian canton of Una Sana, and finally the squares of Trieste. Starting with a typical observational cinema approach, the filmmakers then entrust the narrative to interviews with migrants and the volunteers who rescue them at the border, combining different languages such as animation and found footage recorded from cell phones. A composite film from the formal point precisely because it is the nature of the journey that is multiple and fragmentary.
