Abstract: In piena Guerra Fredda, un uomo pensa di porre fine alla propria vita per sfuggire all’arruolamento nell’esercito nazionale. Ma č veramente libero di decidere il proprio destino? Il nastro si riavvolge per raccontare gli antefatti di una storia dai possibili risvolti tragici. Kiesling viene chiamato alle armi e viene sottoposto a test psicologici e prove fisiche per verificare la sua idoneitŕ a far parte dell’esercito popolare ungherese. Boicotta le visite, fingendosi instabile e squilibrato, rivendicando la libertŕ del proprio corpo di fronte a uno stato che vuole appropriarsene. Gusztáv Hámos e Katja Pratschke si confrontano con gli eventi catastrofici del secondo dopoguerra in Ungheria realizzando un film che parla di memoria, identitŕ e libertŕ individuale. Registi con una formazione e una consolidata carriera nel campo dell’arte, riflettono sulla composizione formale, dirigendo un mediometraggio sperimentale che, a partire dalla fotografia, definisce un nuovo modo di pensare l’esperienza cinematografica per esplorarne i molteplici significati.
At the height of the Cold War, a man considers ending his life to escape enlistment in the national army. But is he really free to decide his own fate? The tape rewinds to tell a backstory with possible tragic consequences. Kiesling is called to arms and is subjected to psychological tests and physical trials to prove he is suitable to join the Hungarian People's Army. He boycotts the examinations, pretending to be unstable and insane, claiming the freedom of his body in the face of a government that wants to appropriate it. Gusztáv Hámos and Katja Pratschke discuss the catastrophic events of the post-World War II period in Hungary making a film about memory, identity, and individual freedom. The experimental medium-length film made by the directors, who have an artistic background and well-known career, reflects on formal composition and, departing from cinematography, defines a new way of thinking the cinematic experience and exploring its multiple meanings.
