Abstract: Due giovani donne bloccate a Sandy Bay, in Tasmania, riflettono sulle vita e sulla famiglie, su desideri e sogni. Sentono di non poter restare a galla se non sfogandosi l'una con l'altra, e con un altro tiro di bong. La conversazione si fonde con il paesaggio, in un insieme lisergico e allucinato, dove nuvole nere si avvicinano inquietanti e la fauna locale osserva con indifferenza, diventando un tutt'uno con la loro confusione. Il film, nella sua brevità, compie una parabola che, con forza dirompente, ci consegna la disperazione impastata di due donne ai margini. Miguel de Jesus si è trasferito in Tasmania per riflettere sulla posizione dello straniero e dello sfollato. Con una quiete esplosiva ci dona un film che ci ammalia, e ci consente di entrare in un mondo intimo e non lineare, impossibile da attraversare con le parole ma aperto a visioni sonore di fumo e caos.
Two young women stuck in Sandy Bay, Tasmania, reflect on life and family, desires and dreams. They feel they won’t manage to resist unless they take off steam talking to each other – and taking another hit at the bong. Their words blend in the landscape, in a lysergic, hallucinated whole, while menacing black clouds get closer and the local fauna watches with indifference, becoming one with the women’s confusion. However short, the film traces an arc, delivering the drowsy despair of two marginalized women with a shattering force. Miguel de Jesus moved to Tasmania to reflect on the role of the stranger and displaced, making a quietly exploding, mesmerizing film that lets us into an intimate, non-linear world which would be impossible to access through speech but is permeable to acoustic visions of smoke and chaos.
