Abstract: L’Africa tra presente, passato e, forse, futuro. Un film che procede per salti temporali, un viaggio che attraversa tante storie che si incrociano misteriosamente l’una con l’altra. Un uomo che incarna il pittore francese François Augiéras, alcuni personaggi che cercano un bunker perso nel deserto, una duna vicino al mare, una gang di banditi motorizzati, misteriosi indovini, un baobab dalla forma quasi umana, un pittore che riprende le forme dell’antica arte africana. “Los pasos dobles” è strutturato secondo una narrazione fatta di connessioni non scontate, di percorsi sorprendenti, di storie che generano o si collegano con altre storie. Le immagini non costituiscono le tappe di un percorso lineare, ma sono punti di una costellazione che si rivela mano a mano che il film procede. “Non mi piace descrivere “Los pasos dobles”, perché i pacchi-sorpresa non si devono raccontare, ma aprire. Se guardassimo il pacco controluce come bambini impazienti potremmo intuire che “Los pasos dobles” è un film d’avventure, un racconto per bambini fino ai 99 anni” (I. Lacuesta).
A film about Africa at present, in the past, and – perhaps – in the future. A travel through time whereby we are confronted with so many stories, mysteriously crossing each other. A man embodying the French painter François Augiéras; some people looking for a bunker in the middle of the desert; a dune beside the sea; a gang of criminal bikers, some mysterious fortune-tellers, an almost human-shaped baobab, and a painter portraying the shapes of ancient African art. “Los pasos dobles” proceeds according to a narrative based on non-obvious connections, surprising paths, and stories spawning or connecting to other stories. Its images are not the steps of a linear development, but the spots of a constellation that is gradually unravelled as the film proceeds. “I don’t like to describe “Los pasos dobles” because surprise gifts should not be told, but only opened. If we watched the gift against the light like impatient children, then we would perceive that “Los pasos dobles” is an adventure film, a story for children up to 99 years of age” (I. Lacuesta).
