Abstract: Questo breve film è un’abile composizione di elementi contrapposti ma in equilibrio tra di loro. Da una parte la natura che nasconde e conserva, dall’altra l’incessante avanzare della città di cemento e ferro. Da un lato la pazienza degli archeologi, dall’altro l’inesorabilità dell’oblio. L’attenzione e la cura dei piccoli gesti: scavare, spolverare, scoprire, inventariare affianco all’indifferenza del presente. Non si tratta di scegliere che parte prendere, ma di cogliere il senso delle cose e dei gesti in rapporto al tempo che le contiene e in cui si svolgono. Un tempo non lineare, ma piuttosto legato alla cura della memoria, che è anche attività del tenere/riportare in vita quello che vita non ha più. Come in altre opere di Paweł Łoziński, “Inventory” parte da un punto ai margini della scena ed entra in contatto con qualcosa di apparentemente insignificante e poco attraente; in questo modo, attraverso questo contatto intimo riesce a nobilitare e a riempire di senso anche i gesti minimi, come scoprire e inventariare.
This short film is a clever combination of contrasting but well-balanced elements. On one hand, nature, concealing and preserving. On the other hand, the city, with its relentless growth of iron and cement. On one hand, the patience of archaeologists, on the other ruthless oblivion. The film is focused on a painstaking care made of little gestures, such as excavating, dusting, uncovering, and inventorying, as opposed to the indifference of the present. It’s not a matter of taking sides, but of grasping the plain sense of things and gestures in relation to the time they’re in. A non-linear time that has more to do with the care of memory, which can also play out as keeping alive or bring back to life something that is no more. As in many other works by Paweł Łoziński, “Inventory” departs from some point at the outskirts of a scene and comes in contact with something apparently meaningless and scarcely attractive; by way of this close contact, Paweł Łoziński manages to ennoble minimal gestures – such as finding and inventorying – and fill them with meaning.
