Abstract: 65 anni fa, Hugo Lev ha fatto parte delle cavie umane selezionate dal dottor Mengele ad Auschwitz, dove ha giurato a se stesso "se qualcuno uscirà vivo da qui, quella persona sarò io". Oggi vive confinato sulla sua sedia a rotelle, dove sta lottando per venire a patti con il fatto che le sue energie si stanno estinguendo. Suo figlio, Yair Lev, desidera avvicinarsi a lui. Un dialogo è possibile solo se mediato dalla telecamera e se si parla di Olocausto. Yair è terrorizzato da un mondo senza sopravvissuti ed è acutamente consapevole del tempo che scorre, ma anni di distanza tra padre e figlio rendono il loro dialogo frammentato e doloroso. Io sarei sopravvissuto? Mio figlio di cinque anni sarebbe sopravvissuto? Questa domanda si rifiuta di lasciare andare la seconda generazione. In questo enorme divario tra padre e figlio si sviluppa un rapporto nuovo e complesso: con il giovane membro della terza generazione ancora inconsapevole del ruolo che gli è stato assegnato da padre e nonno: portare avanti quella memoria, sopravvivere.
65 years ago, Hugo Lev was one of the human guinea pigs selected by Dr Mengele at Auschwitz, where he swore to himself 'if anyone gets out of here alive, it will be me'. Today he lives confined to his wheelchair, where he is struggling to come to terms with the fact that his energy is running out. His son, Yair Lev, wishes to get closer to him. A dialogue is only possible when mediated by the camera and when talking about the Holocaust. Yair is terrified of a world without survivors and is acutely aware of time passing, but years of distance between father and son make their dialogue fragmented and painful. Would I have survived? Would my five-year-old son have survived? This question refuses to let go of the second generation. In this enormous gap between father and son, a new and complex relationship develops: with the young member of the third generation still unaware of the role assigned to him by his father and grandfather: to carry on that memory, to survive.
