Abstract: Ilya Kabakov è considerato uno dei più importanti artisti contemporanei a livello mondiale. È cresciuto in Unione Sovietica ai tempi di Stalin e ha lasciato il paese negli anni '80. Da allora vive e lavora a New York, insieme a sua moglie Emilia. Nelle sue installazioni e nei suoi numerosi dipinti, Kabakov digerisce le esperienze traumatiche della sua esistenza condotta in povertà e sotto le costrizioni di un sistema politico degenerato che non ha ancora perso completamente le sue strutture dittatoriali. Usando il suo sottile umorismo ebraico crea con il suo lavoro un mondo proprio, che lascia indietro la pesantezza della vita socialista e postsocialista. Il film collega gli spazi artistici di Ilya Kabakov con approfondimenti sulla vita quotidiana russa, che a volte appare come un'istallazione dell'artista.
Ilya Kabakov is considered one of the most important contemporary artists in the world. He grew up in the Soviet Union during Stalin's time and left the country in the 1980s. Since then he has lived and worked in New York together with his wife Emilia. In his installations and numerous paintings, Kabakov digests the traumatic experiences of his existence in poverty and under the constraints of a degenerate political system that has not yet fully shed its dictatorial structures. Using his subtle Jewish humour he creates with his work a world of his own, which leaves behind the heaviness of socialist and post-socialist life. The film connects Ilya Kabakov's artistic spaces with insights into everyday Russian life, which at times appears as an installation by the artist.
