Abstract: Il film esplora la memoria e l'eredità dell'attivismo politico degli anni '60 attraverso una serie di interviste a New York ad attivisti politici, artisti e gente per strada. Diviso in tre parti - "The Sixties, Remembered", "An Apathetic Generation?" e "If Not Now Then When?" - il film intesse un dialogo intergenerazionale per registrare le pratiche discorsive che circolano nella memoria collettiva riguardo agli anni ‘60, concentrandosi sull’esperienza personale di alcuni protagonisti dell'epoca posti a confronto con le giovani generazioni di attivisti, artisti e cittadini comuni. Tra i primi, una testimone oculare della ribellione del quartiere nero di Newark, nel 1967, episodio rievocato anche da Amiri Baraka, uno dei leader della protesta studentesca alla Columbia University che fu tra i fondatori del primo partito delle Black Panthers Harlem; fanno seguito alcuni artisti che gravitavano attorno alla Factory di Warhol o esponenti di un'arte esplicitamente politicizzata.
The film explores the memory and legacy of 1960s political activism through a series of interviews in New York City with political activists, artists and people on the street. Divided into three parts - "The Sixties, Remembered", "An Apathetic Generation?" and "If Not Now Then When?" - the film weaves an intergenerational dialogue to record the discursive practices circulating in the collective memory about the 1960s, focusing on the personal experience of some of the personalities of that time in comparison with the younger generations of activists, artists and ordinary citizens. Among the first, a woman eyewitness of the rebellion of the black neighborhood of Newark in 1967, also recalled by Amiri Baraka, one of the leaders of the student protest at Columbia University, then one of the founders of the first party of the Black Panthers Harlem; Followed by some artists who gravitated around Warhol's Factory or made an explicitly political art.
