Abstract: Nel 1968, quando il suo libro "In the Kingdom of Mescal" divenne un cult per il movimento hippie, la pittrice tedesco-americana Nan Cuz era già un'artista affermata, avendo ottenuto la fama negli anni '50 con il quadro "The Madonna of Guatemala". Ben presto ha esposto le sue opere in mostre in tutta Europa e nel palazzo presidenziale del Guatemala. Questo film racconta la storia eccezionale della vita di Nan Cuz. Nata nel 1927 da una madre Maya, all'età di sette anni è costretta a cominciare la sua nuova vita nella Berlino del 1930, allora capitale del IIII Reich. Nan si chiama ora Irmgard... e deve indossare le scarpe. Suo padre, un tedesco che gestisce una piantagione di caffè in Guatemala, lavora per il Ministero della Propaganda del Reich. In 1968, when her book "In the Kingdom of Mescal" became a cult for the hippie movement, the German-American painter Nan Cuz was already an established artist, having achieved fame in the 1950s with her painting "The Madonna of Guatemala". She soon exhibited her works in exhibitions all over Europe and in Guatemala's presidential palace. This film tells the exceptional life story of Nan Cuz. Born in 1927 to a Mayan mother, at the age of seven she was forced to start her new life in 1930 Berlin, then capital of the IIII Reich. Nan is now called by Irmgard... and has to wear shoes. Her father, a German who runs a coffee plantation in Guatemala, works for the Reich Ministry of Propaganda. Together with her husband, Georg Schäfer, Nan would become a pioneer of the hippie era, experimenting with mescaline and LSD in the early 1950s and exchanging ideas with Albert Hofmann, Hubert Fichte, Aldous Huxley and Albert Einstein. In 1971, Nan Cuz and her family emigrated to Guatemala, where she reconnected with her Native American roots. Despite being educated in Germany, Nan Cuz is able to rediscover her faith in the Mayan cult of Mother Earth.
