Abstract: Attivista in esilio in lotta per i diritti della minoranza uigura nel Turkestan orientale (Xinjiang), territorio occupato dalla Cina dal 1949, Rebiya Kadeer (1946 - ) ha combattuto a lungo nel suo paese, prima di essere arrestata, imprigionata e quindi condannata all'esilio. Ora vive a Washington, dove ha accettato di incontrare il regista. Davanti alla sua videocamere, Rebiya Kadeer ha parlato a lungo del suo popolo, oppresso dal governo cinese, che vuole sradicare questa cultura molto diversa e particolare. L'uiguro è una lingua del gruppo turco-altaico e i appartenenti a questa minoranza etnica sono musulmani. Questo consente di assimilarli a potenziali terroristi in modo da contrastare qualsiasi movimento di opposizione. Sylvia Nagel si è poi recata nel Turkestan orientale per incontrare la comunità uigura e ha riportato delle testimonianze impressionanti.
An activist in exile fighting for the rights of the Uyghur minority in East Turkestan (Xinjiang), a territory occupied by China since 1949, Rebiya Kadeer (1946 - ) fought for a long time in her country, before being arrested, imprisoned and then sentenced to exile. She now lives in Washington, where she agreed to meet the filmmaker. In front of her camera, Rebiya Kadeer spoke at length about her people, who are oppressed by the Chinese government, which wants to eradicate this very different and distinctive culture. Uyghur is a language of the Turkish-Altaic group and the members of this ethnic minority are Muslims. This allows them to be assimilated with potential terrorists in order to counter any opposition movement. Sylvia Nagel then travelled to East Turkestan to meet the Uyghur community and reported some impressive testimonies.
